   ON FRENCHMAN'S BAY

This home was originally slated to be built in Lubec, Maine on a rocky outcrop about 50 feet above the Atlantic Ocean.  The owners, originally from South Carolina, bought a business in Bar Harbor and decided to build it overlooking Frenchman’s Bay.  They have incredible sunrises and views of the bay.

The first floor of this home has a Master Suite with walk-in closets, the Master Bath has dual sinks, a large tiled shower and a soaking tub.

The kitchen cabinetry was built by the owner’s father who used to be a furniture builder.  There’s a butler’s pantry attached to the kitchen and a laundry room in addition to a powder room.  The kitchen has a round shaped breakfast area that’s the first floor of the turret and looks out to the bay.  The formal dining room is off the kitchen and flows into the story and one half living room.  The living room has a Rumford fireplace that gets plenty of use.  A wraparound porch on the north side of the house brings you around to the water side of the house to the spacious deck overlooking the bay.

Upstairs are three more bedrooms, one of which is the second floor of the turret and is a favorite to their guests.  In addition to the bedrooms there’s two full bathrooms and a sewing room.  The balcony at the top of the stairs houses many antique books.

This home has a walkout basement that’s currently unfinished, but was designed to have the option of being finished family room space with an additional bathroom.

"We've been in our Fred Hahn-designed home on the Maine coast for eight years now, and at least once a week we find ourselves saying, "Gosh, we love this house.   Fred is masterful at listening to people's ideas and then coming up with a plan that works. When we began talking with him, we had only a vague concept of what we wanted; only weeks later, he produced preliminary sketches that caused us to gasp in delight. He's easy to work with and a great guy - a consummate professional."
