Making your Dream Home a RealityI like to involve my clients in the design process. Their new home becomes 'their's' when their input is included. Starting the Design ProcessAll new clients leave my office with a homework assignment to create four lists: The first one is a list of all the things they want in their new home. The items should be listed as the homeowner thinks of it and not be forced. The second list is the first list prioritized from what is most important to what they could live without because of budget or structural issues. List number three is about all the things they don’t like in their current house. We don’t want to make the same mistakes again. The fourth list is number three prioritized from what irritates them the most to what they could live with, again due to budget or structural constraints.
I also ask them to go through home magazines to get ideas for what they’d like to see in their new home. Going through plan books knowing they won’t find the perfect house, but will more than likely find parts of the houses that works for them is a big help. Location, Location, Location...I have contacts in the real estate business that can help us find the perfect piece of land for them. We’ll spend some time walking the property picking the best spot for their new home keeping in mind the location of the sun and any views. If you already have land we should still walk the property to get the lay of the land. Another thing that goes into locating the home on the land is the cost of construction i.e. blasting, long driveways and so on. The BuildFrom there we start the design of the house and turn your dreams into your dream home. I will be monitoring the progress, working with the contractors, and communicating with you every step of the way. I can also recommend contractors - see my Resources page. |
